The world is certainly a darker place with Joanne having moved on. She was such a bright and kind soul - one of a kind in spite of the challenges she faced so bravely. She even hosted my parents and their best couple friends for three nights at her house in Grand Falls, and toured & introduced them around, and then put them happily to work in her garden and walking her puppy. I too lucked into her Newfoundland hospitality for a whole 10 day tour in 1992 from Cornerbrook to St John's - I still remember her nursing me back to health after a challenging schooner tour in St John's. Jo had much better sea legs than me.
I had the pleasure of joining the streaming of Jo's celebration of life - what a beautiful tribute from Cheryl, Terry and Tracy. Lots of love to Mrs. Maeck, Brian and Terry, and everyone who was part of her return to West Ferris life.

My godmother, Aunt JoAnne, had such a beautiful and inspiring impact on my life.
Every year she crafted an amazing Halloween costume for me. An astronaut, a dinosaur, a pirate, she allowed her godson to explore so many possibilities for the future each year. While, to my dismay, I didn't grow up to be a dinosaur, her creativity in making these costumes played a part in me currently working in a creative field. I will always treasure these memories of receiving a handmade costume from JoAnne each and every year. As some of my first memories as a child, it will continue to inspire me in my creative endeavours.
I was always inspired to travel and explore after hearing countless stories of her and my dad traveling together. As well as this, I greatly enjoyed visiting her and spending time with her and all her animals later in my life.
She will always be in my families memory as the strong, creative, resourceful, adventurous and caring woman that she was. JoAnne will be missed.

I well remember JoAnne from her working days in Springdale, NL. We both lived in the hospital houses and had many dinners together entertaining the locum doctors and nursing students. We had lots of fun and made good memories. Her residence showed her love of art and plants. Not once did I hear her complain about her health and never heard her raise her voice. We did loose touch after she moved to GRand Falls but on occasion we did meet it was great to "catch up". I also remember meeting you Barbara in Ireland when we all went to a friend's wedding. Sending my deepest condolences to her family and friends. Rest easy JoAnne.

My sincerest condolences to the family and loved ones of JoAnne Maeck.
I think anyone who had ever met JoAnne couldn't help but fall in love with her quirky, fun-loving, compassionate, and passionate spirit. JoAnne was my preceptor in my dietetics program in NL, and like many interns before me, she was well loved. She soon turned in to my friend and colleague and then after her retirement when I filled in her role as a renal dietitian, she unfortunately became one of my patients. She left me incredibly large shoes to fill as she was such a dedicated dietitian and had the lived experience of being a dialysis patient herself. She had a wealth of knowledge in not only her field, but just life in general - you really could talk to her about anything. I am so blessed to have purchased some of her art pieces along the way that I will keep and cherish, including her infamous crocheted scrubbies.
My love and prayers for the whole family.

Bob and I were shocked and saddened to hear of JoAnne's passing. We have been good friends with JoAnne for 35 years; first when we lived in Springdale and then in Grand Falls-Windsor.
JoAnne loved life and made a connection with everyone she met. It is like she had known you for years.
We have fond memories of all the dinner parties, the great company, delicious food and many laughs. JoAnne lived life to the fullest. There was never a dull moment when you were in her company; her hilarious stories kept everyone entertained. She truly embraced the meaning of "Dance like no one is watching."
When JoAnne moved back to North Bay, we looked forward to her cards and letters. She never forgot her many Newfoundland friends, all of whom will mourn her passing.

Jo Anne was a great co worker and most importantly and very special member of our family. She was like a second mother to our children and an important part of family celebrations. Mini stick competitions in the kitchen with the kids resulting in broken lights, feeding reindeer on Christmas Eve were just a few special memories.
Jo Anne was such a kind and loving person who made you feel special and important. We miss her so much already but those special memories will keep her with us always.

Dear Barb, Brian and Terry:
We are so very sorry. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
I met JoAnne 35 years ago in NL. We were colleagues and quickly became friends. Jo was a kind, loving and incredibly thoughtful friend. She was an integral part of our family events, holiday gatherings and birthday celebrations, including her own birthday dinner in November - the roasted pork dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy was an annual event for many years. She always brought gifts to family gatherings from her "tickle trunk". These gifts were usually something we never thought of buying, but were always something that we needed, but didn't know it. She was a great role model to many, including my children. She showed them, by example, how to be brave and upbeat when faced with adversity, that kindness is always best and that you don't have to be related by blood to be family. We loved her so much and will always miss her. We were blessed to have known her as were the many people whose lives she touched and enhanced. Sleep well my dear friend.

JoAnne was a force of nature and she will be forever in my thoughts and memories. I was fortunate enough to be her friend for quite a while and she taught me to live life to the fullest. Upon hearing the news, my niece and nephew both reached out with their memories of the kindness shown to them by Jo. She made everyone she met feel like they had known her forever and she gave so much of her time and talents to so many groups, both here in Newfoundland and home in North Bay. I will especially miss the letters and the chats. Please know that I will be thinking of you in the days and months ahead.

To JoAnne's mom, brother and family:
I am so shocked and saddened to hear of JoAnne's passing. I worked alongside JoAnne for many years as part of Art Ex here in Grand Falls-Windsor. Her creative spirit and contagious enthusiasm for the work we did to promote the Visual Arts in our town was inspiring and remarkable. She was a real workhorse who was always ready to roll up her sleeves to tackle any task and bring it to completion.
JoAnne was a very dedicated volunteer in many circles in our town, and was missed when she returned home to North Bay to be with her family and school friends.
Charles Spurgeon once said "wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories." JoAnne was a beautiful soul with such a kind, gentle and giving nature. Her spirit will live on in the hearts, minds and memories of her family, friends and loved ones! Rest in peace, JoAnne!
Sending my sincere condolences to Mrs. Maeck, her brother and family, and her many friends!

Only positive memories of a person is such a gift to be given, her name will always bring me joy as she never brought me anything else.
I will miss you.
