Obituary of Arthur Joseph Beaulieu
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Arthur Joseph Beaulieu announce his passing on Wednesday, November 6, 2024, at Water’s Edge Care Community at the age of 91. Cremation has taken place & a funeral service will be held at Paroisse Saint-Vincent-De-Paul 1265 Wyld Street North Bay, on Saturday November 16, at 12noon, with Father Gerald Lajeunesse officiating,
Arthur was born in Alban, Ontario to Thomas and Alphonsia Beaulieu (née Roussil).
He worked various jobs, including mining in Sudbury. He settled in Terrace Bay and worked 40 years until retirement at the Kimberly Clark Pulp and Paper Mill. He worked his way from labourer to Bleach Operator, walking to and from work daily in rain, snow, and severe cold. He met his wife Rhea and raised their three children here.
Arthur volunteered at St. Martin’s Church, starting with the Turkey Bingo at Christmas time. He maintained the Church and Rectory grounds both summer and winter and held Pancake Breakfasts monthly for 25 years. He was a Grand Knight with the Knights of Columbus, a member since 1957. In 2016, he was awarded Citizen of the Year.
He enjoyed gardening and won many awards for his flowers, vegetables and the appearance of his property. He once grew a cabbage weighing 12 lbs.
He also enjoyed travelling on vacations to family reunions, weddings, and across Canada.
Arthur was an avid Badminton player from 1970 to 2018, playing until he was 85. He was inducted into Terrace Bay’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
After retirement, they wintered in Arizona for nine years. He continued playing badminton, was the Arizona State Senior Doubles Champion, and represented Arizona in the US State Senior Olympics in Pittsburgh. After retirement, Arthur and Rhea travelled to Europe, Hawaii, Mexico, Alaska, and across Canada and the US.
Always up for a challenge, he climbed the Eiffel Tower, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, and 750 steps to a house at the top of a mountain in Switzerland.
He was a man of few words, which were always positive, encouraging, and witty.
His family misses him. Arthur is survived by his wife Rhea (née Leclair) of 65 years. Loving father of Norman (Alison) of Windsor, Annette Landry (Tom Wice) of Astorville, and Lise Beaulieu of Sault Ste Marie. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Alex Parent (Riley), Kathleen Beaulieu, and Nathan Landry, by his great-grandchild Axel Parent, and many nieces and nephews. Arthur was predeceased by his grandson Devon Landry.
Arthur was born into a large family and survived by his sister Delia Beaulieu (Alban). He was also predeceased by his brothers Eugene, Sinai, Jacques, and Aime Beaulieu, sisters Rose Alma, Beatrice, Marie Anne, Irene, Marie Louise, and Juliette.
