Obituary of Vernon Leslie Dube
November 25,1936 – June 27,2024
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vern Dube, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. He left us on June 27, 2024. Vern was born in North Bay on November 25, 1936 to parents Louis and Maude. He was the youngest of five siblings, Russell, Gerald, Vera, and Darwin, all of whom are deceased. He married his high school sweetheart Betty who predeceased him in January of this year. He is survived by his children Leslie and her husband Bob of Oakville and Scott and his wife Margarita of Port Credit . He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan, Mimi, Jack and Ella and step-grandchildren Jamie and Caroline and by his great grandchildren, Marceline, and step-great grandchildren, Oliver, Madison and Lucas.
Vern had a long career with Bell Canada that started in North Bay and took the family to Sudbury, Thunder Bay, Ottawa, Oakville and Saudi Arabia. He kept in touch with many of his Bell colleagues throughout his life. The move to Saudi Arabia sparked a lifelong love of travel and he and Betty enjoyed trips to 46 countries around the world. They shared many wonderful experiences together before retiring back home to beautiful Trout Lake.
Vern was an avid nature lover and could often be found hiking in the woods surrounding his Trout Lake home with his best friend, beloved Golden Retriever Buffy.
He loved to encourage the grandchildren and all who would listen to appreciate nature and would spend countless hours patiently explaining the different trees, leaves, mushrooms and flowers in the woods. He was a wonderful gardener and always planted a vegetable garden and lots of flowers at every home. The deer at Trout Lake enjoyed his flowers and gardens too. His solution was to buy them apples in hopes they would stop eating all his plants!
Vern was a talented handy man who seemed to know how to fix anything. He built two of his homes and renovated and repaired all of the others. He was also a wood worker and built some cherished furniture pieces that we will treasure.
The family sends our thanks to the team at Waters Edge Care Community where he resided for the last year and half. Their compassion and kindness for him is truly appreciated. Grateful as well to Henry and Jack, dear friends who kept in touch til the end.
Vern was a peace loving, gentle, nature loving soul who will be missed dearly by his family and friends.
A gathering is scheduled on August 29, 2024, Noon, at Forest Lawn Cemetery to lay him to rest with his wife Betty. For those who wish to join, Forest Lawn is located at 1075 Tower Road, North Bay, Ontario.
