Frederick Smith Obituary

Fred Smith peacefully passed away on January 15, 2024, in the comfort of his favorite chair at his home. He was in his 77th year.




Fred dedicated 30 years of his life to helping others as an ambulance supervisor and served his community by driving a school bus and highway coach for countless years.




He is lovingly remembered by his spouse of over 27 years, Karen, and his daughters JoAnna (Fred) Johnstone, Tina (Chris) Thorkelson, as well as his stepchildren Kerry, Erin (Jon), and Krysta. Fred's grandchildren Owen, Tori (Colin), Tyler (Laura), Jenna (Mitch), Savannah, and especially Starling, Quentin, and great-grandchildren Zion, Shepard, and Gideon will deeply miss him.




Additionally, Fred will be greatly missed by his in-laws, many nieces, and nephews.




He is survived by his two brothers, Ken and Velven, and predeceased by his sisters Phyllis, Ruby, Ruth, Marilyn, and Nancy.




A celebration of Fred’s life will be held on Sunday, July 7th, 2024, at his home (117 Lindsay St. North Bay, Ontario) from 1:00pm - 4:00pm




Donations in Fred’s Memory may be made by cheque to the District of Nipissing Paramedics Honour Guard (1715 Seymour St. North Bay) or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
