CHURCH (née Barber): Stella Alvina
With great sadness, the family of Stella Church announces her passing at the Mattawa Hospice on Wednesday, November 1, 2023. Beloved daughter of Donald Barber and Hazel Barber (née Clark) and the beloved wife of the late Leonard Church (predeceased December 22, 1974); she was 96 years old. Loving mother to Edna Desvreaux (predeceased by Jack) of North Bay, Sandra Dunlop (Dave) of Balderson, Debbie Adams (Wayne – both predeceased) of Calvin Twp., Patsy McLaughlin (predeceased by Bill) of Corbeil, Doreen Hay of Mattawa, and Leonard Church (Erin) of Boulter Twp. Stella is the dearly loved sister of Clark Barber (Mae) of Nipissing, Jim Barber (Helen) of Callander, and Brenda Stillar (predeceased by Evie) of Powassan, predeceased by her siblings Adrian Barber (Ruth), Orville Barber (Phyllis), Eleanor Beatty (Jim), Beth Cross (Lloyd), Donna Saunders (Bill), and Francis Barber. She will be lovingly remembered by her 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. The Church/Barber families would like to thank Dr. Gushe for Stella’s excellent care and express gratitude and appreciation to the dedicated staff of the Mattawa General Hospital and Mattawa Hospice.
Visitation will be held at the Martyn & Sloan “Mattawa Chapel” on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s in the Pines on Monday, November 6 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be afterwards at the Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Rutherglen with a luncheon to follow at the Mattawa Golden Age Club. If desired, donations to the Mattawa Hospice, the Mattawa Golden Age Club, or St. Andre’s in the Pines will be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
