Obituary of Ted Hammill
In Loving Memory: Edward (Ted) Hammill
May 12, 1942 - August 22, 2023
Edward (Ted) Hammill, son of Neal and Charlotte (Dollie) Hammill, and a devoted husband to Laurie (nee Scott) for 46 years. A devoted father to Scott (Stephanie) and Alexander “Sandy” (Tara), and a cherished Papa to Izabella, Sophie, Brodi, and Saige.
He is survived by his brother Wayne (Donna), sister Ellen (Murry) Lockhart, brother Phillip, and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Ted is preceded in death by his brother Grant and sister Karen (Doug) Ball.
On Tuesday, August 22, 2023, Ted left this world unexpectedly but serenely, entering his 82nd year with grace.
Ted's dedication to his family remained unwavering, matched only by his timeless, open-hearted sense of humor that brought joy to all. His hearty greetings and warm "Hello" were a hallmark of his hospitality.
Having retired two decades ago, Ted concluded a fulfilling career as a long-haul truck driver and a self-employed owner/operator of heavy equipment and a tractor-trailer, where his skills and commitment shone brightly.
"The ever present sound of a diesel
going through its gears
is the steady beat and constant rhythm
he’s known for many a year.
And it’s the lullaby that late at night
his mind still longs to hear.
He still can see those highways
with his inner eye.
He can’t forget the visions
of those unpolluted skies.
He still can feel the wind
and hear its tender sighs.
Those memories stay inside and linger
and will until he dies.
They’re part of what he’s made of
they’re forged into his soul.
They come from years of truckin’
and they’re what have made him whole.
After cremation, a private memorial service will be held at All Saints Mausoleum, where Ted will find eternal peace.
Donations to The Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of choice would be greatly appreciated, a testament to Ted's giving nature.
