Obituary of Barry James Craig
CRAIG, Barry
April 11, 1944 – April 5, 2023
Barry died suddenly at Health Sciences North in Sudbury on April 5, 2023.
Barry was the loving husband of Linda (nee Winters), devoted dad to David (Barb) and Leigh Anne (Tony). Much loved Poppa to Makenna and Liam. He was the son of Robert and Hilda Craig, growing up in Matheson with brothers Bill and Kent.
As a teenager, Barry worked as a mechanic at Bustards. In 1966 he started at Ontario Hydro, retiring in 1993 as the Area Line Foreman in North Bay/Warren.
Barry cherished his small-town roots and lifelong friendships. Many will remember him as the drummer in a local band playing for many weddings and dances. Over the years many hours were spent hunting and fishing in the country east of Matheson with ice fishing on Lake Abitibi an annual outing. In the summer, rounds of golf were enjoyed with yearly fun tournaments shared with a devoted group of friends.
Barry was always busy repairing anything mechanical and was delighted when things were running again. Barry was always a cat lover cherishing all the family felines.
Barry’s happiest time was when he headed North and could spend time at Dun Wishin’ Lodge on Perry Lake.
His priority in life was spending time with family and friends who brought him so much comfort and happiness.
A Memorial Visitation for Barry will be held on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Martyn Funeral Home (464 Wyld St.) from 2:00pm – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 8:00pm.
Interment at a later date at Hillcrest Cemetery Matheson
