Hello Don.. I just learned of the recent death of Marion. I will be contacting Bob shortly as well. Just wanted to let you know how sorry I am (as will be Bob). She was such a genuine, warm "authentic", as they now say, person. I fondly remember our visit to your GB cottage and the lovely social times we shared in our respective NB homes. I know she will be sorely missed by all of you as well as her many friends in North Bay and anywhere her smile touched someone's heart. In the midst of the difficult days ahead, I hope all your great memories of a life well lived together will sustain you. With warmest regards and blessings, Marylou (Miner)

A dear friend in high school; we talked for hours in her driveway solving the problems of the world. Her parents didn't know what to make of us, but we were always just the best of friends. The love of her life was in Parry Sound and she enjoyed a beautiful life with Don. Randy [as we called her in North Attleboro High School, later much to her chagrin] was full of life, caring, sharing and a glorious leader [head cheerleader!!! And nobody did it better!] We had little contact during our University of Massachusetts days, but thanks to the wonders of the internet we were able to reestablish the friendship in her later years. I felt like I was part of the family sharing those wonderful photos of her kids, grandkids and husband.
We originally hit it off because my mom was from Windemere and the Bracebridge area. Her photos of the lake filled my soul with the thoughts of what my mom should have had the chance to grow up near. My family and I have visited the area on a couple of occasions [the Dawson clan still has a family gathering] and I fully understood how lucky Randy was to live in that breath-takingly beautiful part of our world. May her Spirit wander the islands and lakes of Parry Sound in peace and joy forever.

When I entered the public high school in 1962 in North Attleboro, Massachusetts I didn't realize how lucky I was going to be to meet another girl who would become a dear friend during high school and college at the University of Massachusetts. That girl was Marion Smith. She was fun loving, loyal, very smart, widely respected and such a joy to know. I treasure memories from those years.
One particular memory I have is from right after high school graduation, Marion invited three of us to travel with her up to her parents' cottage in Parry Sound. What a marvelous trip it was! We loved everything we did and I can still laugh at some specific memories.
When I met Don, I realized what a wise choice Marion had made and I send you my deepest sympathy, Don. Marion will always be remembered.

Marion. She was my cousin, not my "cousin-in-law". She was a force, kind, fearless and very funny. She loved life and was part of my cottage life for decades...and decades. How can I possibly pick one or two memories for this book? Memories of Don and Marion would fill this book and many more. I recently rec'd a card from a dear friend that read, "They lived and laughed and left. And the world will never be the same." I will miss you, Marion. I already do. Neil and I just cannot get our heads around this. ox

Our memories of Marion go back a long way from the time that Peter and Bill drove Don down to see Marion at her home in North Attleborough and later when they drove Don to see MARION at University. I first met Marion when Don and I drove over from Camp Ahmek so Don could see Marion at her cottage .
That started a long friendship with many events including time with the 4 Wheelers and 4 Bowies at their cottage in Parry Sound. We all managed to fit into the small cottage by the lake and later were thrilled that they fulfill a dream and built their dream cottage high on the hill.
Marion was instrumental in reconnecting Peter and I after we had been many years apart .The Boys Weekend became the boys and girls weekend at Marion's insistence. We enjoyed many adventures skidooing, summer and winter weekends, Wood Choppers ball and visits back and forth between cottages. Our last visit was in Parry Sound where we met for lunch and Marion as always was her upbeat positive self. She told me then that she was so happy to have lived to see her sons Andrew and James and their families enjoy the cottage as much as she always had for so many years . When she shared that she had done most things she had wanted to do, we see that hers was a life well lived .She will remain in our hearts forever.

To Don, Andrew and James,
Marion was such a bright light and a spark. She and I just delighted in our 'shared twins' saga. You boys, then Max and Tom born on exactly the same day so many years later! She would share old photos of you and I forwarded proud pics of the newest Wheeler twins. Neither of us could get enough and it brought us close together. So many memories of the cottage and the warm hospitality that you all extended. She will be truly missed.
Sincere condolences to all of your family,
Sue and John

Marion and Don moved to North Bay in 1971, one year after we did. Learning of our common interest in canoeing, (although Al and I had done very little), the Wheeler's decided to teach the Garrett's how to run some rapids. In early spring we would go on family picnics to Champlain P.P. where there is a dandy set of rapids to start on. Eventually Don and Al were entering the North Bay to Mattawa canoe race each July. Of course the families were at the starting line to cheer them on. Then, with a canoe tied on to one car and our kids in the back seats, Marion and I would drive to 3 access points along the route where we exchanged their empty water bottles for fresh drinks and snacks for the gruelling race. At Pimisi Bay, we needed to get the canoe off the car, load the kids into it, and paddle to the portage at Talon Chutes in order to make the exchange and provide moral support. Finally in Mattawa, we watched with excitement as our 2 heroes arrived at the finish line winning their category year after year. What fun we had! Marion's happy disposition made her always fun to be with. Her smile and laughter will stay with us. RIP Marion.
Sincere sympathy to Don, Andrew, James, Ralph, and Families.

Dear Don and all the Wheeler family
Carolyn and I want to pass on our best wishes and love. I was fortunate to know Marion almost my entire life. In the early years, it was on a lake or river someplace in Temagami and in the later years, at the house in North Bay.
One visit to the house was when I was visiting North Bay and it was just her and myself. I knocked on the door just by chance and welcomed for an extended visit.
We want to pass hugs and best wishes all around. She was an Angel and will certainly be missed.

Don.
Sincere condolences to you from a distant Mulligan family. Mrs. Wheeler to us was really great. I Remember when you and (Mrs. Wheeler) took us out on the catamaran. As kids and before all these tubes and jet dkus were around. I still tell ppl about how fun it was.
I remember my mom calling you guys to see if we could use your diving board. And when we'd show up ...(really) i think i called her aunt marion. Lol...
She would come down to watch us.
Well you know how i love to fish. Well 'aunt' marion
Would talk to me as I trolled by every morning...at least when she was out...or hollar at me from the deck up above. I'll be honest I always hated ppl talking to me when the motor was running bc I couldnt hear them.
I just remember saying random things like...fishing is slow or haven't caught anything yet....even if she was asking something totally irrelevant. That's just how it was.
I always looked up for a wave or a 'cut the motor' conversation early in the morning.
Aunt Marion's interest was like a great cup of coffee to me in the morning.
Mine and my families condolences Don.
