Obituary of Irene Marie Edith Johnson

Irene Marie Edith Johnson passed away peacefully at the age of 85 during the morning of March 26, 2023.

She was a wonderful mother who was always there when needed by her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband Richard S Johnson and brother Richard Lebrun, and is survived by her brother Edward Lebrun (Barbel), sons Richard E Johnson (Anne Marie), Steven Johnson (Christine), James Johnson (Jennifer), her grandchildren Scott, Nathan, Maija, Craig, Mackenzie, Stewart, Amelia, Cassidy, and sister-in-law Susan Mostyn, nephews Richard, David, Peter, Mark, and Eric and many cousins.

Irene was born and raised in Schumacher, Ontario and left at 18 to become a Registered Nurse, receiving training at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto. She served in the military as a nursing lieutenant, stationed in several places including Churchill, Manitoba and bases in Germany, where she met her husband who was in the air force. After leaving the army she continued to work as a nurse when her husband was stationed at air force bases in Rivers and Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Ottawa and North Bay, Ontario.

She always volunteered her time for her sons' activities such as hockey, Cub Scouts, school band, and other community events. Her family was her life, she was fiercely proud of her sons and grandchildren. She was much loved. We wish to thank the staff of the D3 ward of the North Bay Hospital for their care for her final few months. We also thank Dr Leckie for his care for her throughout her time in North Bay and more recently Dr Stacey.

A visitation for Irene will be held on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at Martyn Funeral Home (464 Wyld St.) from 6:00pm - 8:00pm.
