Karen, Peggy, Cindy, Jana, Rob, and all of Ed’s family; I’m so very sorry to hear about Ed. I can honestly say he was such an important part of me growing up as he was a very good friend and a mentor. Whether it be our excursions in and around Redbridge on snowmobile or ATV, showing me how to repair and maintain vehicles and equipment, and of course the incredible amount of hours in the groomer. He took the time and patience to train me the right on how to operate the groomer while I was still quite young. He taught me skills that you just acquire at any school. If you ask Karen, the term “role model” might be a bit of a stretch especially because she would laugh and say Ed and I were mutually corruptive! Haha
As mentioned, he taught me so many skills mechanically by spending hours working with him on vehicles, equipment, groomers, etc. Only thing was I wasn’t to work on carburetors since I had a nickname of being “The Carburetor Kid” haha!! I can say I’ve gotten much better at carburetors since then.
But the most important thing was Ed’s friendship. I’m so lucky, grateful, and blessed to have had such an amazing friend. While most of my friends my age had friends of similar age, Ed, Karen, and myself had a wonderful friendship to which I wouldn’t trade for the world. He was fun, comedic, very family oriented, and a tough hard worker. Just really a true country gentleman. He would give his all for anyone and expect very little or nothing in return. It’s just who he was.
The other day I did my brakes on my vehicle. If it hadn’t been for Ed, I really wouldn’t have a clue. It’s all the little things and skills and tips that he taught me that make me realize this every time. He had such a positive impact on my life. I just hope I can help keep a piece of his legacy going forward and instill those values in my kids and make him proud. I know we lost touch in the last few years and it’s sadly a regret to which I’ll have to carry but I do remember all the good times we had and I hope he understands how important he was to me. I’ll miss him very much. Thank you Ed for everything and for just being you. You’ll always be remembered.
