I just came across this now. Reverend Cook was such a help and comfort to me when we lived in Saskatoon. I wish I knew he was in north bay as I am not far away and would have sent a message and condolences at the time of his passing. David and Betty were wonderful people and I will never forget them. Rev Cook oversaw my fathers (Alf Pettersen) funeral in November, 1987. I remember meeting with Rev Cook in my mothers living room a few days prior to the funeral, to go over what would take place. I was very taken with Rev Cook’s caring manner, listening intently as we shared my dads challenging childhood as an orphan and how he had gone on to rise above this shaky start to his life. After we finished sharing dad’s story, Rev Cook said “Your dad turned scars into stars!”. I’ve never forgotten his words that day or his timely way of summarizing my dads life. He used this phrase in dads funeral. To Rev Cooks family- your dad and grandfather was a kind, generous and spiritual man. He touched many lives and I for one will always remember him. Sincerely: Brenda Dyck (nee Pettersen)

Dear Family of Reverend David: My family and I were privileged to spend time with David and Betty through our membership at St. Matthew's United Church, Calgary in "the '90s". His most memorable advice to me was "It's always better to live within the law." And on the topic of relationships, "That's why God made the dark." Thanks to all of you for sharing David with us and so many others. Love, Sue Rock, Katie, and Connor.

David was a beloved member of Hazelmere United Church (HUC) in South Surrey. During his time with us, he participated fully in the life of the congregation; led the Sunday morning worship services when our Minister was absent and along with his wife Helen, never missed the HUC singalongs that raised funds to renovate the 100 year old Church and Hall buildings. He was a gentleman....a learned scholar of the Bible...and our friend..... May he rest in Peace...Ken and JoAnne Rattray

Our condolences to Bob, Diane and girls for the loss of Rev. David Cook, your father & grandfather.
The members of the North Bay Pipes and Drums often had the pleasure of playing our pipes for David. We felt great joy in him enjoying our music. He was always a wonderful supporter of our band and for that we are thankful.
Rest easy Mr. Cook

I have such fond memories of David. I met him when I was 6 or 7. He came as a package deal with John and the rest of the family. I remember going to Christmas church service where he was the minister and he would call me up to come and get a candy cane or an orange in front of the congregation. I remember hiding as the younger children went up but he would summon me to get the treat as well. It was horribly embarrassing at the time but also very special that I got singled out. He was engaging at the pulpit and kind in person. He would always call me Mish, a nickname that didn't stick with anyone else. It was special to me and I will miss never hearing it again. Even though I am not religious, when it came time for me to get married, I knew I would want David to guide us through our ceremony. He likened marriage to being on a ship together and assured us that we could persevere together through all storms. He was correct, of course. His presence on the most important day of my life meant the world to me and he put us at ease. Given how many people benefited from his ministering at their weddings, I felt that he was a good luck charm for a happy and long life together. I love this photo that shows how much fun we had that day! He is most definitely being welcomed into the kingdom of his lord with open arms while hearts are breaking here on earth. My heart hurts at his passing and I extend my condolences to all of the family at this difficult time.
