I was much saddened by the news of the death of my cousin Helen. She was a thoroughly lovely person. All of her many many friends will share this sentiment. She was the first of the Lockwood’s of my generation and was much revered by all of the family. Indeed, when I was growing up, I was very much aware of the truly exceptional family respect for her. Her life was as admirable as it was long. The age gap and my settling in England, frustrated my desire to see her more often. But I do recall the delightful meeting I had with her and her husband, Don, on the occasion of their visit to England. I saw her again much later in Nanaimo at the wedding reception for her son, Dawson. My wife, Helen, who had not previously met her, was enchanted by her intelligence, charm, warmth and humanity. However sad we may feel about her passing, it is life that merits celebration.

Janet and I were both deeply saddened upon hearing of Helen's passing. I certainly remember meeting her for the first time in the Browndale office on Worthington Street and had the pleasure of working beside her at the CAS. She was a support, mentor and confidante and I remember vividly, her wise counsel and comfort during several difficult times in my life.
Somehow, knowing Helen was around, provided reassurance and a reminder to be positive in life. I will keep that reminder in my heart.
We want to send you our heartfelt condolences at this time.

Helen and my mother, Diane Hunter were bridge partners for years. They made a fun and formidable pair. I know they had a wonderful friendship and a deep respect for each other. I also was privileged to meet Helen through the bridge club. With her incredible memory and wealth of knowledge, Helen could converse with anyone on any topic. She always made the person with whom she was speaking feel comfortable and important. I will miss her positive attitude and lovely smile.

My memories of Helen go back to when I first moved to North Bay in 1993. I met Helen while working at the local Children’s Aid Society. A few years later, our paths crossed again and I had the pleasure of living in a room and board arrangement with her. Although the living arrangement lasted less then three years, her presence and impact in my life, and in that of my family’s lives, continued on. So much so, that years later, my nephew enjoyed the same living arrangement with Helen while completing his helicopter training at Canadore College.
Helen lived her life unapologetically. She was bold, passionate about her family, arts and her community. Life with Helen was never dull. She was constantly on the move and planning for her next trip, activity or get-together. I was fortunate enough to have enjoyed several fun filled adventures with her.
Eric and I will dearly miss her. We were blessed to have known her and to get to know her family through her. Our sincerest condolences to her family and all those who shared their lives with her.

So sad to hear of Helen's passing. I met Helen at the North Bay Bridge Club and shared many laughs and stories. She will be missed by all at the club.
I remember organizing a 90th Birthday Party at the bridge club and you so graciously wore your regal crown and cape through the whole game and enjoyed a dance with Warren while we sang the Helena Polka for you with music.
Hugs

Helen was a wonderful friend and will be truly missed.
We always looked forward to getting together, sharing stories of family, usually over lunches or hearty meals.
We have such a treasure trove of memories, visiting at her home, her stopping by in Parry Sound, weddings, spa trips, and other adventures.
Helen was always so spunky and ready to go.
Her stories and memories from past adventures were lively and frequently comical.
We wish to express our love and sympathy to her family.
We know we will meet again some day.

I’m am so saddened to hear that Helen has passed away. I got to know her through the North Bay Bridge Club. She brightened everyone’s day with her stories, her sense of humour, and her easy conversation. I told her once I was too busy to read. Her response was “I’m too busy not to read.” I went immediately to the library. This has stuck with me and I thank her for bringing me back to books! My condolences to Helen’s family. I know she will be missed by all of you.

Our sincere and deep condolences to Kerry and everyone in Helen's family on the loss of this wonderful woman. I knew her through the North Bay Bridge Club and through the North Bay Film Club. We had wonderful discussions and shared many delightful humorous moments. Helen was, to me, the very definition of a renaissance person. I can only imagine the loss you feel as her family because I feel it deeply as a recent friend over the past decade. Sympathies, Barry Grills and Jennifer Rouse Barbeau.
