Our hearts are saddened as we share the news that the patriarch of the Pedersen Family. Mr Ejner Pedersen, passed away peacefully at home on Monday May 24th, 2021. At 8:30 a.m. he opened his eyes for the last time and smiled. Then he passed away with his lifelong love, Margit, holding his hand and surrounded by family. Margit and Ejner celebrated their Platinum Wedding Anniversary together on May 6, 2021 and Ejner's 94th birthday would have been on July 3rd.  He leaves behind his adoring wife of 70 years, Margit, his daughter Elisabeth (m. Andre Rathier), son Martin (m. Milka), his daughter Rita (m. David Treliving), his son Jimmy (m. Rose), and daughter Stella (m. Dale Johsnon). Ejner is predeceased by his daughter Mona (m. Lars Erik Munch). He will be missed by his grandchildren Laurie (m. Garry McBurnie), Nancy (m. Cory Hoyle), Tyler, Adam, Steven, Gary, Christina (m. Carsten Andersen), Marianne (m. Jean Mbe), Susanne, Kayla and Leah; his great grandchildren Jocelyn, Sarah, Ezra, Andrew, Shakira, Leia, Vigga, Nor and soon to arrive Kensi; as well as his great-great grandchildren Emily and Ivey. Ejner also leaves behind his sister Gudrun and many extended family in Denmark.

Ejner and Margit owned and operated Mattawa Cleaners for 40 years and were active members in the Square Dance Club and Scandinavian Club. Ejner loved to fish and hunt, and enjoyed making maple syrup. He was a master at finding the best blueberry and wild strawberry patches, and flowers from his and Margit's garden can be found flourishing in hundreds of homes around Mattawa and across Ontario. His passions included protecting the environment and he was a founding member of the North Bay - Mattawa Conservation Authority, serving two years as its provincial appointee. Ejner also believed in giving back to his community, serving as a town council member for many years and he was always there to lend a hand to a neighbour or help mentor a young person who needed guidance. He will be missed and fondly remembered by everyone whose life he touched. He was the best storyteller and we will keep his memory alive by continuing to recount the tales of Ejner, aka Grandpa, to friends and family, down through the years.

A private family service will be held at St Andrew's United Church and Ejner will then be laid to rest at the Pinehill Cemetery. The Pedersen family would like to thank Bob Jackson for officiating the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Martyn & Sloan "Mattawa Chapel" and online condolences can be placed at http://www.martynfh.com .  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Bay (Mattawa) chapter of VON (Victorian Order of Nurses). Because of their excellent, compassionate care, Ejner was able to comfortably remain at home in his final days. Please follow this link to donate https://www.von.ca/en/donate-now
