Obituary of Judith Lynda McLaughlin
McLAUGHLIN – Judith Lynda (Tate)
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Judith Lynda McLaughlin (Tate) (1951-2021) share the sad news of her passing on January 20th after a courageous battle with cancer. Judy exuded tremendous bravery, strength and determination throughout her journey and in her final days. She passed comfortably at home surrounded by her family and beloved pets.
Pre-deceased by her parents Betty and Ralph Tate, survived by her devoted husband Gerry, her loyal sister Mary Brown (David), her brother Mike Tate (Smokey Lake, Alberta) and her loving children Mark (Angela) and Amanda (Brent). Judy was the VERY proud and doting “Grammy” to her grandchildren Laura, James and Emily. Mourned by her brother-in-law Bennett and his wife Phyll, cherished Aunt to Kris, Kara, Vanessa (Simon), Joseph, Mathew (Laura), and Andrew(Celia), great aunt to Eric. Judy will be remembered fondly by her many friends she made throughout her life.
A retired registered nurse, Judy worked at the old St Joseph Hospital for many years as a caring and skilled NICU nurse. She finished her nursing career in the Day Surgery Unit at the McLaren hospital site. In her retirement, Judy volunteered with the pet therapy program at both Casselhome and the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
Judy loved to travel and explore, she especially enjoyed escaping the winter months for sunny destinations. She was an avid golfer, and spent many summers on the links with her friends. She loved to celebrate special occasions (Holidays and Birthdays) with family. She especially loved having her grandkids visit and always gave the best hugs and treats. She was a lover of all sports - always up to date on tennis, golf and hockey. She particularly enjoyed rooting for her Toronto Maple Leafs. Judy loved all animals and was a very proud pet mom to her canine and feline companions.
Judy’s family wish to extend their deepest and sincere gratitude to family physician Dr. Brian Shaw for his exemplary care, compassion and support shown to Judy and her family. A special thank you also to Dr. Kathryn Shaw for her excellent care. Thank you to the North Bay LHIN and the nursing and personal support staff from the VON. If desired, donations in Judy’s memory to All Heart Pet Rescue, or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
A celebration of Judy’s life will be planned at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Martyn Funeral Home with online condolences at www.martynfh.com.
