Obituary of Marilyn Goodhew

Please share a memory of Marilyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marilyn Goodhew (nee Wallace), of North Bay, who died peacefully on May 4, 2020 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre with her husband Garth at her side.  Marilyn was the beloved wife of Garth for 62 years and the loving mother of Scott (Beth), Jeff (Tina) and the proud grandmother of four grandsons, Justin (Alexandra), Ryan (Brittany), Camden and Braedon.  Marilyn was predeceased by her parents John and Kathleen Wallace of Cochrane and is survived by her sisters Sally Shirley of Barrie and Bonnie Devine (Frank) of Iroquois Falls and by her brother John Wallace of Midland, New Brunswick.  Marilyn was born on October 18, 1932 to Kathleen (nee Eplett) and John Wallace in Coldwater, Ontario. Marilyn grew up in Cochrane, Ontario and attended Cochrane High School, Queen’s University and North Bay Teachers’ College.  Marilyn taught Elementary School in Orillia and Brampton. She met Garth in Brampton and they married in Cochrane on August 16, 1958. Four years later she left teaching and started to raise a family and became a wonderful homemaker.  Marilyn was passionate about her family, her beautiful gardens, crafts, travel and playing bridge. She also loved St. Andrews United Church, helping to organize community Turkey Dinners, teaching English to adult learners, and Christmas baking for her entire family. Cremation will take place this week and a Celebration of Marilyn’s Life will be held at a later date. Marilyn’s family would like to thank Dr. Wendy Graham for her compassionate care of Marilyn over the past few years. We also would like to thank Dr. Eddie and the nurses in the Palliative Care Unit of the North Bay Regional Health Centre for their loving care and professional skills. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to St. Andrew’s United Church, the North Bay Foodbank or to the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
