Obituary of Jean Eleanore Evans
EVANS: Jean
Passed away peacefully at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, on Tuesday October 8th, 2019. Jean Eleanore (nee Newhouse), was the beloved wife of the late Terrence Jesse “Terry” Evans, she was 95 years old. Loving mother of Tim Evans and his wife Angela (nee St. Jean) of North Bay. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandsons Davis and Riley both also of North Bay.
Jean was born an American citizen but resided in Canada most of her life. She met Terry on a ski hill and fell in love with the handsome RCAF officer. They married in Comox, BC and eventually settled in North Bay, where they became very active in the community and raised their only son Tim.
She recently stated that she didn’t miss San Francisco but loved Trout Lake. She spent many days on Trout Lake with the paddlers of the North Bay Canoe Club that she and her husband Terry co-founded with others. She loved the sport and loved the paddlers even more. Jean acted as the club’s treasurer, snack bar lady, and club “mom” for over 40 years. Many of her favourite stories were of canoe club regattas and the antics the paddlers got into. Jean was a long supporter of the North Bay Symphony and could often be found at the Capital Centre. She was very proud when her grandsons took up the sport of paddling and her son and daughter in law picked up the family tradition of volunteering at the North Bay Canoe Club. Jean was active all her life, playing tennis at the Granite Club well into her 80’s. She hiked, biked, and skied until she was 88 years old. She volunteered as a ski patrol at both Laurentian Ski Hill and Mount Antoine.
The family would like to thank the nurses at NBRH on B3 for their kindness to their mom and grandma. Daniel, Donna, Terra and Jenny were compassionate, gentle and loving towards Jean when she needed it most.
Memorial Visitation for Jean will be held in the Martyn Funeral Home on Friday, October 18th from 2-4:00 PM & 7-9:00 PM. All her life, Jean had a heart for those who were disadvantaged, often providing food and a bed to those who needed it. In keeping with her spirit of generosity towards those in need, donations to the Gathering Place would be appreciated by her family.
