Obituary of Joan Marie Pearce

Passed away at Eastholme on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, in her 93rd year.  Beloved wife of the late Edgar Charles (Bud) Pearce.  Cherished mother of Geoffrey (Kimberly) of Emo, Ontario, Joanne Arthurs (Michael) of North Bay, Jennifer Langlois (Bill) of Severn and Timothy (Stephanie) of Red Deer, Alberta.  Proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren who will dearly miss her love, support and zest for life.  Joan is survived by her brother James Cooke (Marjorie) and is predeceased by her parents Myrtle and Norman Cooke, and her siblings Donald Cooke  (Midge) and Norma Ross (Marr).  Joan was born and raised in Orillia, Ontario.   She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s school of nursing in London, Ontario, where she met her husband Bud.  Joan and Bud lived briefly in Montreal before making North Bay their home in 1957.  Joan was a nurse with St. Joseph’s General Hospital in North Bay from the mid 1960’s until her retirement in 1988, and a volunteer thereafter.  Her hobbies included swimming, sewing, knitting, skiing, gardening, playing bridge and attending her grandchildren’s many plays, recitals and concerts.  She found immense joy in her large circle of friends and is fondly remembered as a member of, and volunteer for, St. Andrew’s United Church and later Emmanuel United Church.

Family will receive friends at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Friday, January 25th from 7:00 -9:00 p.m.  A memorial service will be held at Emmanuel United Church on Saturday, January 26th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.  Cremation has taken place at Forest Lawn Crematorium.  If desired, donations to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.  Online condolences at www.martynfh.com .
