Lorraine Stamp Hobin (1930-2018)

With sadness, the family announces the passing of Lorraine Stamp Hobin on October 8, 2018, after a lengthy illness. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. Cecil P. Hobin, and her parents, Lorne and Connie Stamp. Lorraine will be lovingly remembered by her son, Paul Hobin (John Matea) of San Diego, California, and her daughter, Penny Phillips (Dwayne) of Pipe Creek, Texas. Her granddaughters, Avery and Tessa Phillips, gave her great joy and many reasons to be proud. She is survived by her devoted siblings: sister Lois Carey and brother Lloyd Stamp (Pat), all of North Bay. Aunt Lorraine will also be remembered as an enthusiastic supporter of her Stamp, Carey and Gauthier nieces and nephews.

Born in Bracebridge, Lorraine spent most of her childhood in North Bay, where she attended North Bay Collegiate Institute and Vocational School. She loved being a Trojan. A registered nurse, she was a proud graduate of the Hospital for Sick Children School of Nursing in Toronto. She met Cec, the Yankee love of her life, while working as a nurse at Camp Pathfinder in Algonquin Park. After they married, they lived in Cleveland, Ohio, but the call of the north brought them back home to Canada. During Cec's time at South Porcupine United Church, the couple played important roles in reviving Camp Waskesiu, and brought their mutual love of canoe tripping and camp lore to young people in the north.

Lorraine and Cec loved flying and enjoyed many adventures in their Cessna 182, most notably, a cross-country trip to Wyoming in 1968. Their overseas travel took them to China with Dr. Robert McClure, a medical missionary, and former moderator of the United Church of Canada. Lorraine and Cec also travelled to India, Tibet, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Bora Bora. They sailed on the Nile, Ganges, and Yangtze rivers.

Throughout her life, Lorraine was a passionate advocate for animals, and gave generously to animal welfare organizations. She was also a strong supporter of LGBTQ rights.

Cremation will take place with arrangements in the care of Martyn Funeral Home. A celebration of Lorraine's life will take place in the summer of 2019. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew's United Church (North Bay), the North Bay Humane Society, the North Bay Regional Health Centre, or the Hospital for Sick Children (Toronto).
