Obituary of Sheila Margaret Laferriere

Laferriere - (Brown) Sheila Margaret May 27, 1925 – June 15, 2015 At the age of 90 years died peacefully at home. Predeceased by her husband Cecil (Red) Laferriere in 1978. Loving mother to Richard Laferriere (Lise), Darlene Laferriere (David McKenney) and Heather Laferriere. Proud grandma to the Rev. Emily Duggan (Tim Kelly), Katie McKenney (Aaron), Jamie McKenney (Jenn) and Anna Mary McKenney (Tony Campbell). Great Grandma to Braunwyn, Wylde and Alexander. Sheila was born at 98 Abbey Road and raised in London England where she worked as a comptometer operator in a busy London office. She met her handsome Canadian soldier who was serving with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders and they married shortly after D-Day. As a war bride, she voyaged to Canada on the Iles de France and travelled from Pier 21 in Halifax to the Laferriere farm in Chisholm. Sheila and Red built a home on Airport Hill in North Bay where they forged many lifelong friends. Sheila worked at Lea’s Mini Mart on Trout Lake Road and watched all of the Graniteville kids grow up in the 1980’s when they came to the store for penny candy. Sheila was a gifted knitter and seamstress who created beautiful clothing for herself and her family, as well as household notions. She enjoyed reading and continued to consume books on CD after she lost her vision to AMD. Sheila was proud of her British heritage and believed that every problem could be solved with a hot cup of Earl Grey tea and a bite of humour.
