May 9, 1923 – July 23, 2011 Rene passed away peacefully at the age of 88 surrounded by his family. Loving husband of Katy, caring father of Greg (Margaret), Pierre (Anne) and Tammy, devoted grandfather of Tomas, Camille, Jameson and MacKenzie. Rene shared 59 wonderful years with Katy learning, loving and laughing together as they travelled through life on new adventures. As a father he was very generous with his kindness, care, encouraging words, love and laughter. His children hold on to many incredibly warm memories that will stay with them forever. While in Hearst, Rene dedicated 25 years of his life, doing what he enjoyed most being an educator. In retirement the real estate business challenged the salesman in him. Rene lived life to its fullest, enjoying singing, poetry, card games, crossword puzzles, billiards, sports especially le hockey le Canadiens, gardening, scratch and wins, storytelling, and spending time with family and friends. He was an avid entertainer and “raconteur”, who lit up social events with stories, songs, poems and jokes. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Friends and family are invited to Memorial Visitations at the Martyn Funeral Home on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9:00 PM. A Memorial Mass celebrating his life will be held at the Pro Cathedral on Wednesday, July 27th at 10:00 am. In keeping with Rene’s joyful personality and bright light, fond memories and mementos are welcome.
