Patrick Lyons Obituary
Lyons, Patrick
Born August 4, 1920, in Almonte, Ontario, Pat Lyons passed away peacefully in his 100th year on a sunny fall day at Nipissing Manor in Corbeil, on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
Pat was the beloved husband of Joyce (née Gilchrist), with whom he shared 75 years of marriage. Dear father of Patti LeDuke (late Dan) of Kamloops, Marylynne Claridge (Andy) of Edmonton, Rob Lyons (Rhondi) of Rockwood, Mark Lyons (Lesley) of Corbeil, and the late Terry Lyons (Lidia) of Lethbridge.
He is survived by his sisters Dora McGee, Doreen Horton, and Lorraine Lablanc. Affectionately known as “Grampy,” Pat will be dearly missed by his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his longtime fishing buddy, Bill Cochrane.
Pat had an extraordinary career with Ontario Hydro, beginning as a 15-year-old boy in Toronto and becoming one of the company’s longest-serving employees. His work in surveying took him throughout Ontario, including Mattawa, Abitibi Canyon, and Thunder Bay, before he and Joyce eventually settled their family in North Bay, moving into their first home here on Second Avenue in 1960.
He believed strongly in giving back to his community. Over the years, he served as Past President of East Zone Minor Hockey and the Widdifield Lions Club, sat on the boards of the CNIB and the Canadian Hearing Society, and volunteered his time with the Knights of Columbus.
Those who knew Pat knew that Pat’s way was usually the only way. He was stubborn, and he certainly wasn’t afraid to let you know what he thought. Beneath that sometimes-gruff exterior, however, was a man who quietly helped many people over the years. He did things in his own way, without fanfare, and never looked for recognition or accolades in return.
After more than a century of life, Pat leaves behind a remarkable legacy - 75 years of marriage, a large and loving family, a lifetime of hard work, service to his community, and undoubtedly more than a few stories that will continue to be told for years to come.
Friends may call at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, October 10th from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date at All Saints Mausoleum. Pat’s family would like to thank the staff at Nipissing Manor for their amazing care and support during his time there.
