Groulx, Estelle Marie

It is with great sadness and much love that we say good-bye to our beloved Aunt, Estelle Marie Groulx who passed away at the Mattawa Hospital on Thursday, August 13th, 2026 in her 88th year.  Estelle was born in Mattawa on August 21, 1938, to the late Alberta (née Bertrand) and Alcide Groulx. Although Estelle never married or had children of her own, she was deeply devoted to her family and held a special place in the lives of those she loved. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by her niece Madeleine Lapensée, and her nephew Jean Lapensée (Audrey), and their children, Heather Parizeau (Brent, Rhian, and Avah), Jeremy Gardiner (Macy and Liam), Diana Lapensée (Mark, Jaelyn, and Adriah), Karyne Lapensée (Kyle, Hailey, & Addyson), Danya Johnson (Eric, Bohdy, & Scarlett), and Justin McGuire.

She was predeceased by her sisters Ella Chevrier (late Ken) and Mae Lapensée (late Fern), her infant brother Rhéo Groulx, and by her nephew Gilles Lapensée. 

Estelle was a faithful and integral part of St. Anne’s Catholic Church, where she gave generously of her time and was always willing to lend a hand. With her dependable nature and knack for keeping everyone organized and in line, she became a familiar and valued presence within her parish community.

Before retiring, Estelle worked for many years as a telephone operator with Bell Canada, a career she took great pride in.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Anne’s Parish, Mattawa on Estelle’s birthday, August 21st at 11:30 a.m.  Interment to follow at St. Anne’s Parish Cemetery, Mattawa.  

A reception will follow at the Golden Age where a light lunch and refreshments will be served. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Martyn & Sloan “Mattawa Chapel.”  Online condolences may be left at www.martynfh.com.
