Doris was born on July 29th, 1938, and grew up in Hanover. She was the third oldest of 10 children in her family. She began her career at A&P in Hanover. At the age of 50, Doris decided to return to school to become an RPN. She went on to work for 15 years at the North Bay Psychiatric Centre.
Following her retirement, Doris and Wally purchased their dream home on Lake Talon, where they enjoyed 20 wonderful years together. Doris had a love for life and people. She enjoyed gardening, theatre, and caring for her many animals at Lake Talon. She was an excellent cook and loved hosting family meals and sleepovers for many children at their house on the lake.
In her later years, she loved her visits to the cottage, where she enjoyed games of bingo, attending Sunday school, and spending time with her family. She was known for her warm hugs and kisses and sharing stories about the people she loved.
A special thank you to her dear friends, Bernice and Nancy, who were by her side until the end, as well as the many family members who brought love, laughter, and joy to her hospital room.
Doris will be remembered for her love of family, the warmth she showed to others, and the many memories she created at Lake Talon. Her stories, laughter, and infamous wave will be cherished by all who knew her.
A celebration of remembrance will take place on August 29th as per her wishes at Evergreen Camp on Talon Lake, her favourite place. Friends and family are welcome from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In Doris’ memory, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.
