Bethell, William Brian "Bill"

Bill passed away peacefully at the Mattawa Hospital on Monday, June 8th, 2026, following a brief illness that he was determined to overcome. He was a man of strength, resilience, and quiet determination, and his loss will be deeply felt by all who knew and loved him.

Bill was the beloved husband of Patsy Backer and a devoted stepfather to Claudine Janveaux (Denis) and Aaron Backer (Colleen). He was a proud grandpa to Lauren, Faige, Alexandre, and Dylan Janveaux, and Sydney and Maddox Backer.  Bill is survived by his brothers, Bob (Kelly) and Rick (Deborah).

A career with the Ontario Provincial Police was one of Bill's greatest sources of pride. Beginning his service in Mattawa in 1967, he went on to serve in Ottawa, Burk's Falls, and North Bay throughout his distinguished career. Bill retired in 1996 with the rank of Detective Constable, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to his community.

In retirement, Bill and Patsy enjoyed spending their winters in Bonita Springs, Florida, with their two beloved dogs Bently and Shiloh, where they made many wonderful memories together and enjoyed the warmth, friendships, and relaxed pace of life.

Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Anne's Parish on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
