Françoise Marie Lessard (née Lahaie)

Fran passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of her family, at the Mattawa Hospital on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the age of 81. Beloved wife of Robert “Bob” Lessard, Fran was a devoted and loving mother to Roddy Lessard (wife Christine) of Oshawa, and a proud grandmother to Avery Lessard of Timmins.

She will be deeply missed by her sister Muriel Lahaie-Rawling of Ottawa, and by the many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who lovingly thought of Fran as a second mom or aunt.

Fran had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Whether it was with a warm smile, a good glass of wine, or an offer of something delicious from her kitchen, her home was always a place where people felt comfortable and cared for. An excellent cook and gracious host, she loved bringing family and friends together.

She also dedicated many years to teaching in Mattawa at École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Victor and École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Anne, where she touched the lives of countless students and families over the years.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In memory of Fran, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Mattawa Hospital https://www.mattawahealth.ca/Donations, or Algonquin Nursing Home would be appreciated.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff of the Mattawa Hospital, and especially to Cousin Colleen Lalonde, for their care, compassion, and understanding during Fran’s final days.

A celebration of Life will be held on Friday, June 19th 2026 at the Mattawa Legion Branch 254. (360 Hurdman Street, Mattawa) from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.
