Ernest Joseph Rheal "Ernie" Lamirante Obituary

Lamirante, Ernest “Ernie”

Ernie Lamirante, age 77, lifelong resident of Mattawa, Ontario, passed away  surrounded his family and friends on Monday, April 6th, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of service, strength, and deep love for his family and community.

Born on October 25, 1948, in Mattawa, Ernie was truly a hometown man. He lived his entire life in the place he loved, dedicating himself wholeheartedly to the people around him. Mattawa was not just where Ernie lived; it was who he was.

Ernie was predeceased by his first wife, Linda Lamirante (née Mantha); his parents, Henry Lamirante and Lucille Lamirante (née Cliche); his brother, Sam Lamirante; and his sisters, Suzanne and Theresa Lamirante, all of Mattawa.

He will be deeply missed by his children, Angela Lamirante and Sheri Wabie (Bree); his brother Robert Lamirante (Nicky); his wife, Danielle Lamirante; and his step-daughter, Nathalie Perreault (Dan). Ernie was a proud and devoted grandfather to Chantal (Guy), Malik, Kiah (Jesse), Amelie, and Alexie, and a loving great-grandfather to Carter and Charlotte, who brought him immense joy and pride.

Ernie dedicated his life to helping others. He served the community of Mattawa for over 35 years as a paramedic, volunteered as a firefighter for 18 years, and represented his town as a councillor for more than 20 years. After retiring, he continued to serve in his own quiet way, driving a school bus for many years and safely transporting the community’s little ones, a role he took great pride in. He believed strongly in showing up for people- on their hardest days and in their moments of need - and he did so with unwavering commitment and pride.

Ernie was known for his tough exterior and strong personality, but those who knew him best understood that it was his way of protecting a huge, warm, and deeply caring heart. He loved fiercely, stood his ground when it mattered, and gave more of himself than he ever asked for in return.

As per Ernie’s request, cremation has taken place. He will be laid to rest with his late wife, Linda, in the spring. There will be no church service.

Ernie’s presence, his voice, and his dedication to others will be missed beyond words, but his spirit will live on in the community he served so faithfully, and in the family he loved so deeply.

A donation to the North Bay Regional Heatlh Centre - Cancer Clinic would be gratefully acknowledged by his family.  Arrangements entrusted to Martyn & Sloan "Mattawa Chapel." Online condolences may be left at www.martynfh.com.
