It is with deep sadness that I write this.
What can I say about Ernie? That he was an acquaintance, a neighbour and a friend. Ernie was known for his gruff exterior and strong personality, but those of us who got to know him understood that that this was a mask hiding a caring heart. He was always ready to help his family, neighbours and the community at large.
I will miss our backyard chats in the summer and our chats while clearing our driveways in the winter.
We shared with joy , the small triumphs fighting his battle with cancer , a disease he was determined to beat. Unfortunately, the battle was lost. Nevertheless, Ernie kept a positive outlook until the end.
It was a privilege and a pleasure to have known him and Polly and I will remember him for his kindness and resilience.
May he rest in peace and may all his loved ones find consolation in the memories they made together over the years.
