LAFRENIERE, Jason Roger Rolland
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jason Lafreniere, on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Jason was the much-loved son of Judy Lafreniere (née Bell) and the late Roger Lafreniere, a dear brother to Jean, and was predeceased by his brother Steven.
He was the cherished nephew of Harold Bell (Diane), Shirley Webster (Robert), and Bev Bell (Lorne Mick). Predeceased by his grandparents Ovide & Aurore Lafreniere, and Arthur & Margaret Bell, as well as by his aunts and uncles Ruth & Bob Divver, Elmer & Jeannine Bell, Claire Gauthier, Gloria & Reggie Burton, and Lorna Bell.
He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his many close cousins and friends.
Jason lived a full and adventurous life. Jason played hockey at various levels including the NHL, and more recently worked as a residential appraiser in Vancouver, where he had been looking forward to retirement. Jason absolutely loved travelling the world, especially anywhere with surf, beaches, and sunshine. One of his proudest accomplishments was climbing to the first base camp of Mount Everest - a testament to his drive and determination.
A truly big life was lived in his short 59 years, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A burial of ashes will take place this summer at St. Anne’s Cemetery in Mattawa.
In Jason’s memory, a donation to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Foundation would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
