Hannah, Malcolm "Mac" Philip 

1936 - 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Malcolm "Mac" Hannah, aged 90, who passed away unexpectedly but peacefully at home in his favourite spot on January 19, 2026, in North Bay, Ontario.

Born on January 5, 1936, in Callander, Ontario, Mac lived a long and industrious life rooted in dedication to his family, his work, and the simple joys that brought him happiness.

Mac shared his life with Shirley (McCauley) (in their 70th year of marriage), who stood by him through the years. He is remembered by his children Jim (Ramine), Karen (Greg), Steven and his sister Arleen. He was predeceased by his daughter Laurie who had a special place in his heart. He will also be missed by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of which he cherished. Throughout his days, Sadie was always at his side—a constant companion whose presence brought him comfort and joy.

Mac began his career with Longyear Canada (Christensen) in 1952 and remained a steadfast employee until his retirement in 1996. Over the course of more than four decades, he worked first as a Machinist and later advanced to the role of Bit Designer with many various roles in between. His commitment to precision and craftsmanship along with his sense of humour left a lasting mark on those who worked alongside him.

Outside of work, Mac was known for his love of garage sales and his knack for fixing things. Whether it was a tool in need of repair or an item rescued from a sale table, he found satisfaction in restoring usefulness to what others might overlook. His hands were rarely still, always busy with a project or tinkering with something mechanical.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as a reminder of a life well lived through hard work, quiet passions, and enduring companionship.

Mac, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, you will be missed immensely!
