We are truly heartbroken to announce that Robert Coulter Govan, age 59, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. His Gryphin HOF blanket keeping him safe and warm.
Bob lived his life with a remarkable zest and an openness that drew people toward him. He dedicated his early career to public service, joining the Halton Regional Police Services in 1987 and serving with commitment and integrity for 10 years. He later transitioned into a long and respected career as a Certified Financial Planner for more than 30 years, earning his Chartered Life Underwriter designation along the way. Bob was known not only for his expertise, but for his honesty, steadiness, and the genuine care he showed for every client he guided.
Generous with his time and always ready to lend a hand, Bob built a wide circle of friends—too many to list—each of whom felt valued and supported by him. His kindness, humour, and warmth made him the person people turned to without hesitation. Morning runs were his favourite way to start the day, always before anyone else was awake. He completed an Ironman in 2011 and a Half Ironman in 2010, and he was proud to say that at 57 he could still bench 300 lbs.
Above all, Bobby was devoted to his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 36 years, Francie, his children Robert (Amanda) and Madelaine, and five cherished grandchildren—Izabelle, Scarlett, Sebastian, Quinn, and Everly—who knew him lovingly as Granbob.
Bob is also survived by his mother, Catherine Govan; his siblings Christopher (Claire) Govan and Lorri (Rudy) Bracnik; and a lifetime of friendships that he nurtured with loyalty and care.
He will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life, his generous spirit, and the love he poured into every relationship. Bob’s legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, and he will be deeply and forever missed.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bibic for a lifetime of care—her weekend and evening calls showed how deeply she cared. We are also grateful to Selena and Lorri from OHAH, all of Bob’s PSWs, and the wonderful staff at the North Bay Regional Health Centre. Their compassion and effort to keep Bob comfortable were deeply appreciated.
A special mention goes to Dr. Leckie, who helped Bob realize his wishes on his own terms with kindness, care, and grace.
Bob’s generosity lives on through the Trillium Foundation, where he gave the gift of a better life to many.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre Wish Program would be appreciated.
