Dora Mary Grannary Obituary

In Loving Memory of Dora Mary Grannary (nee Caverson)

Dora Mary Grannary (nee Caverson), born on January 29, 1931, a beloved mother, (great, as well as great-great) grandmother ((Bis)Nona), aunt, sister and friend, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2025, in the North Bay Regional Health Centre, with family members by her side. Mom’s independence and ‘joi de vivre’ was evident even in most recent years as she maintained a very active social life attending activities with friends and family (choir, church, pub night at Marina Point Village residence, family dinners, and special events). Mom’s daily walks were important to her - both outside and in the hallways of the Marina Point Village residence. A drive-through meal or ice-cream cone was not an uncommon occurrence - alone or with family.  In earlier years, Mom enjoyed playing the keyboard, square-dancing and joining in the activities of three special groups in North Bay: The Baytones, the Italian Davedi Club and Living Fit. Mom was most happy and found great joy in spending time with family, as the matriarch of five generations. Mom so dearly loved her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Mom’s faith and incredible sense of humour remained central to Mom’s life until the very end.

Dora was born in Sudbury and spent her early years in Coniston, the second of five children.  Dora’s love for playing and watching sports including softball, curling, swimming and golf has carried on through all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dora was well known and respected for her many years working in the insurance industry in Sudbury as well as in Temagami, Edmonton, and North Bay.

Dora is survived by her loving children Sue (Mike) Wood, Dale (Chris) Sheard, Lorrie (Tim) McAnulty, and her two “dolly-bunsons” (favoured Italian sons) Bill (Cindy) Grannary and David (Colleen) Grannary. Dora is also survived by her sister, Catherine DiPietro, and her brothers, Ritchie (Bruna) Caverson and Guy (Wendy) Caverson. Dora is predeceased by our father, Don Grannary, her parents, Tiziano and Mary Caverson, her brother, Raymond (Merle) Caverson and brother-in-law, Frank DiPietro.
