In Loving Memory of Geraldine (Gerry) Frances Neily (née Percival)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Geraldine (Gerry) Frances Neily of North Bay, Ontario, at the age of 92. Gerry passed peacefully on Friday, December 12th, surrounded by her family at the North Bay Regional Health Centre after a short illness.
Gerry was born in Rouyn-Noranda on November 17, 1933, as the third child of Allen and Annie Percival. Her family moved to North Bay in 1935, where she grew up and attended North Bay Collegiate Institute.
She graduated from Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1955 as a Registered Nurse, ranking at the top of her class. That same year, she married Dale C. Neily of North Bay. Gerry worked for a few years in Obstetrics at St. Joseph's Hospital before helping Dale manage the Dunrovin Motel on Lakeshore Drive for sixteen years. Later, after obtaining her broker’s license, she joined Dale in running Neily Real Estate. Together, they raised four daughters and led an adventurous life, travelling extensively and enjoying an active retirement as snowbirds until Dale’s passing in 2018.
Gerry was an active member of Calvin Presbyterian Church, the Manitou Chapter of the IODE, Habitat for Humanity, the North Bay Food Bank and advocated for Dying with Dignity. Her vivacious spirit touched everyone she met, including those at The Beaches Condos, Marina Point, Duplicate Bridge Club, and Interlink Choir.
She is survived by her sister, Marion Martin, and brother, Barry Percival; her four daughters, Leeann (Bill) Whitney, Colleen (Michael) Williams, Kathleen (Rob Pearn) Dempsey-Glegloff, and Christine Neily; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband Dale, and her brother Jack Percival.
Please join Gerry’s family at Martyn’s Funeral Home (464 Wyld Street) on Tuesday, December 16, from 2–4 p.m. and 6–8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Calvin Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at 11 a.m., with Reverend Lucas Bruder de Oliveira presiding.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the North Bay Regional Health Centre, Dr. S. Moreau, and Dr. M. Leckie for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the North Bay Food Bank, Calvin Presbyterian Church or the North Bay Regional Health Centre would be gratefully acknowledged as an expression of sympathy.
