It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Clayton Gomoll, the kindest and most genuine human being, on December 4, 2025, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, after a brief battle with bilateral pneumonia. He was 90 years old.
Clayton will be dearly missed by his beloved wife Gayle Bale and their cherished dog and constant companion, Honey. He leaves behind his loving stepdaughter Tanya (Dean), stepsons Troy and Tahl, and was a proud Grandpa to Khala (Jon), Kourtney (Josh), Morgan (Drew), and Craig (Tiffany), as well as a Great-Grandpa to six wonderful great-grandchildren.
He was a loving uncle to Jim (Leslie), Greg (Heather), Bernie, Shelley (Mike), and Wendy (Paul), and is survived by his brother Allan (Janice). Clayton is predeceased by his first wife Norma, his parents Frederick and Irene, and his sister Kathleen (Charlie).
Clayton will be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and neighbours who were touched by his warmth, humour, and kindness.
Clayton began his working life at a very young age alongside his father and brother. Before the founding of Gomoll Timber Mart, they established F.A. Gomoll and Sons Limited in 1953, later opening Gomoll Timber Mart Powassan in 1969. A hardworking and dedicated craftsman, he took immense pride in the buildings he helped bring to life.
Among his many accomplishments, Clayton built several notable structures, including Sunset Park Public School (1962), Powassan OPP Station (1963), E.W. Norman School (1966), and Eastholme Home for the Aged (1967 & 1968). Of all his work, he was most proud of the beautiful home he built for himself on the shores of Lake Nipissing, where he spent many cherished, wonderful years.
Clayton was known for his generous spirit and deep love for his family, friends, and community. He treasured every moment spent with those he cared for. He had a lifelong passion for the stock market—BNN was often playing in the background, and Gayle frequently found him awake in the middle of the night, quietly checking on the aftermarkets.
He adored his ’62 Corvette, which he proudly drove right up until the very end. He attended countless car shows and enjoyed weekly lunches with “the boys,” a tradition that brought him immense joy.
He will be missed more than words can express.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Jinnah and the dedicated staff at the North Bay Regional Health Centre for their exceptional care and compassion.
As per Clayton’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the North Bay Humane Society or SickKids, or simply do something kind for someone—because that is exactly what Clayton would have wanted.
