Rita Anne Groulx (nee Douglas)

Sadly, our beloved mother Rita Anne Groulx (nee Douglas) of Mattawa, Ontario passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 16, 2025 at the Algonquin Nursing Home in her 88th year.

Rita was born on July 27, 1938 to parents Annie and George Douglas in the Metropolitan Borough of Hackney, London England.

Rita and her parents immigrated to Canada on the ship Aquitania Nov 17, 1948 at the age of 10 years old. Raised in Mattawa Ontario, Canada where she met and married her husband David Groulx on Aug 3rd, 1956 having three children Kathleen, Karen & David Jr.

After nearly 30 years of service at the Bank of Nova Scotia as a bank teller, Rita retired and spent her time gardening, sewing and knitting. Rita was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family always came first, giving her much joy and love.

Rita is survived by her children Kathleen Groulx (Rick) Karen Groulx (Richard) and David Groulx Jr. Grandchildren Mathew (Tracey), Stephanie, Robert, Renee (Nick), Lisa (Matt), Kerri (Cory), Jacob and Jaden Great-grandchildren David, Macy, Ryan, Griffin and Emma.

She is predeceased by her husband David Groulx, her parents George and Annie Douglas, her sister Ruby Blake, her niece Carol Biggley and her great nephew Billy Biggley.

Respecting Rita’s wishes there will be no visitation with a memorial service to follow in the spring. Arrangements are entrusted to Martyn & Sloan “Mattawa Chapel” if desired, donations to Algonquin Nursing Home Social Committee would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
