Mervin Elsworth Byers

Mervin passed peacefully at the Mattawa Hospital on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at the age of 89.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ruth (Hazelwood) in 2009.  Loving Dad of Neal (Heather) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Sharon (Rick) Dowd of Mattawa, Elwood (Glenna) of Mattawa and Louise (Dev) Hurlburt of Whitehorse, Yukon.  He will be missed by his grandsons: Nathan, Cody (Bridget), and his Granddaughters Jessica (Craig), Jacklyn (Warren), Kristen (Jamie), Shelby, Melody (Josh), and Stacey.  Great-grandpa to Alyssa, Alexis, Aaron, Levi, Sawyer, Brooklyn, Kenzie, Dierk, Knoxley, Kiaya, Landon, Nina, Bexton, and Damon.

Predeceased by his grandson, Joel Dowd, parents, Mabel and Alex Byers.  Loved brother of Vivian McKee (late Ranald), Maurice Byers (Shirley), Margaret Watson (late Dan), Thelma Byers, Lyall Byers (Eunice) and Victor Byers (Linda).  Predeceased by sister Hilda Hersemeyer (late Eugene) and Lawrence Byers (Lila).

Visitation will be on Thursday, October 30th, from 9 a.m. to the time of service at 11 a.m. at the Lion’s Den - 175 Brooks Street, Mattawa, with internment immediately following at the Pinehill Union Cemetery on 8th Street, Mattawa.  The family invite family and friends for lunch after the internment at the Golden Age Club - 464 Poplar Street, Mattawa.
