Donald Peter Black

June 26, 1945 – October 15, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Peter Black who peacefully left us on October 15, 2025 at the Au Chateau residence in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario.

Born in Barrie, Ontario, 1945, Don was married to Eva (Jurkevics) for 55 years. He was a cherished father to his two daughters Andrea (Kal), and Rachel; known to his grandchildren Shane and Ava as Big Daddy, and a beloved brother to Doreen.

Don grew up in Toronto and moved with Eva to North Bay where they raised their family. He was a beloved member of the community, known to everyone across the city. An avid photographer, Donald's enduring legacy lives on in the wedding albums and framed memories of families across the region.

Don was a longtime paramedic serving North Bay, defined by a deep sense of compassion and commitment to saving and improving the lives of others. Delivering a baby on his last day of work before retiring was one of the highlights of his career.

Don will be remembered for his love of the cast and the catch, spending many happy hours fishing, and for the great care he took in curating his impressive collections, especially his vast array of fishing lures and sports cards.

Don's retirement years were dedicated to the St. Brice's Anglican Church community, where he actively lived his faith by serving on various committees, providing essential physical care to the church, and enjoyed serving the teens at Teen Lunch each Friday.

Rest in peace and rise in glory, Don. You will forever be in our hearts.

A funeral of life will be held at St. Brice’s Anglican Church in North Bay, Ontario to honour his memory on Monday, October 20, 2025.  Visitation will be from 10:00am - 11:00am with the service starting at 11:00am. The Black family would like to thank the staff at Au Chateau for the amazing, devoted care given to Don (and Eva).
