Michael Gordon Matkin

June 16, 1963 – September 17, 2025

On September 17, 2025, Michael passed away suddenly while on a fishing trip near Kirkland Lake, Ontario. He was 62 years old.

Mike was born in North Bay, Ontario to Sam and Florence Matkin in June 1963 and he spent his childhood and early adulthood there. He spent his life working in the construction industry, taking great pride in his work on industrial sites, his own home and the homes of his friends and family. When he wasn’t working, Mike loved spending time outdoors, and Northern Ontario always held a special place in his heart.

Mike will be remembered as a good man. He was always helping other people. He had many friends and was always making new ones wherever he went. He was the life of the party, and he will be so incredibly missed.

Mike is survived by his life partner Giovanna (Gina), who he loved to travel with, his children, Trista (Corey), Andrea, and Carl (Rachel), his stepchildren Stephen (Laura) and Natalie, and his sister, Lee-Ann, as well as his niece and nephews. He had one grandchild, Maxwell, with whom he shared a very close bond. He was predeceased by his parents, and his sister Dianne. Mike made an impression on people everywhere he went, and his family and friends will miss him greatly.

Funeral Services will be held at Martyn Funeral Home (464 Wyld St, North Bay, ON) on September 25th. Visitation will be held at 11:00 am, followed by celebration of life speech at 1:00, afterwards everyone is welcome to join the family at Grecos at 344 Algonquin Ave.
