Hunnisett, James “Jim” Thomas
Jim passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at his home on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, in his 81st year.
Jim was the stubborn but devoted husband of Mary (née Kelly). Loving dad to Pamela Hunnisett-Rios (Cristian) and Sarah Hunnisett-Mynerich (Steve). He was the proudest Grandpa & Papa of Luca and Tulia Rios, and Riley and Aidan Hunnisett.
He leaves behind his brother Joe Hunnisett (the late Carol), and was predeceased by his sister Norma Sanderson (the late John). Jim will be deeply missed by many extended family and countless friends.
A true Toronto sports fan, Jim cheered loudly for the Leafs, Argos, and Blue Jays—but his heart was especially with his local North Bay Battalion hockey team. He was a faithful fan of "Days of Our Lives" and never missed his beloved Friday ritual of wine & cheese – and we are certain that he’s up there toasting with his beloved family and friends (and dogs) who passed before him.
Jim spent many years as a salesman with Bicks and Robin Hood, where his quick wit, warm smile, and ability to strike up a conversation with anyone made him a natural.
Jim was a proud member of Musicians & Entertainers, where he had a blast driving bands to gigs across Ontario and the East Coast. He and Mary also cherished their travels in the motorhome with friends from the Twin Seas Caravan Club, Chapter 6.
Anyone who knew Jim knows he loved to be the center of attention—whether it was cracking a joke, whistling a tune, or simply making sure everyone knew he had arrived. His charisma, charm, quick-wit, and knack for storytelling had him requested to be the MC and host to many events. We are certain he’s doing the same now, rye & water in hand, with that familiar twinkle in his eye.
Family and friends will be received at MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, September 20th, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Terrace Lawn Cemetery.
A donation to the NBRHC – Cardiac Care Unit or the North Bay Humane Society would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy. Online condolences may be left at www.martynfh.com.
