Susan Onita Souliere (née Sparks Belanger), age 78, finally decided it was time for a well-deserved rest on August 20th, 2025 — and probably just in time to avoid hearing one more update on who is playing for the Battalions this year.
She was the beloved and very patient wife of Guy Souliere, and the endlessly devoted mom to Tammy Powell (Steven) and Terri Carne (Chris Loken). She also took great pride (and possibly a few deep sighs) in being grandma to Tyler, Gavin, Brady, Brittany, Mickayla, Courtney, Brandon, and Reegan, and great-grandma to Olivia-Grace, Warren, Hudson, Bennett, and Karson — all of whom knew exactly who her favorite was. (But she never said it out loud… we think.)
Susan grew up as head of a bustling, loving, slightly chaotic sibling group. She is survived by her sisters Sharon (Rick), Christine (Len), Sandy (Bob), and her brother Randy (Debbie). She was predeceased by her sister Darlene.
Susan survived a lifetime of family chaos, raising kids, grandkids, and even a few grown adults who should have known better. She also spent many years working in Switchboard and Patient Registration at North Bay Hospital, where she became an expert at helpful, calm, and just sarcastic enough to keep things interesting. But her real full-time job — the one she never retired from — was being the glue, the heart, and often the referee of her big, noisy, lovable family.
She was known for her huge heart, a collection of unique “treasures” (a.k.a. junk, according to her loving critics), and crafts that may or may not have taken over every available surface. If it had glitter or could be glued to something, Susan had already started making three of them and given them away to unsuspecting family members.
Susan had the kind of laugh that made you feel at home, and a sarcasm so sharp it could have been patented. She loved her family fiercely and unconditionally — even when they were being absolute $h!t H3ads. Her greatest accomplishment wasn’t a career or a trophy (though she could have won one for Most Patient Woman Ever) — it was her family, and the joy, chaos, and love they brought into her life.
She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, wit, strength, and a bunch of knick-knacks that none of us know what to do with but can’t bear to throw away.
She will be missed dearly and remembered often — especially when someone says something ridiculous and we all think, “Susan would have had thoughts about that.”
Special thanks to Dr. Renee Gauthier, the nurses of C1 and especially A3, for taking such good care.
