Shirley Phyllis Brunet (née Cormier
Passed away at the Au Château in Sturgeon Falls, Saturday, August 9, 2025, 7 days after celebrating her 87th birthday. Daughter of the late Henry & Rose (née Wing) Cormier. Beloved wife of 68 years to Léo Brunet. Loving mother of Pauline Brunet, Suzanne Busch (predeceased by Robert), Thérèse Brunet, Jean-Claude Brunet and James Brunet. She will be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Matthew Dakins
(Orsolya), Gregory Dakins (Cecelee), Ryan Busch (Sana), Katrina Busch, Rose Rotondo (Grey), Shane Brunet, Cory Brunet (Memère Muffin loved you so very much), and great grandchildren Bennett Dakins and Gordon Dakins. Also remembered as a part of her family, Louise Brunet.
Known as a kind and compassionate nurse, Shirley started her career as a Registered Practical Nurse in her hometown of Espanola. Upon marrying Léo, she moved to Cache Bay to raise her five children. After her youngest started school, she returned to work first at St. Jean de Brébeuf Hospital, followed by the West Nipissing Hospital for the next 17 years.
Shirley was an avid Knitter & Quilter. She was a proud member of the United Club 50 and was an active participant in fundraising for the community. She also supported the local chapter of Victoria Quilts. Shirley loved her time on the Island and fishing at the boathouse with her family.
Once retired, she and Léo travelled the world. Shirley spent her last four years as a resident at the Au Château. Her family would like to thank Dr. G. Labelle, Nurse Practitioner Jenna Bluteau, and all the staff who provided her with exceptional care.
She is survived by her brother Albert Cormier (predeceased by Gladys) of Espanola. Predeceased by her siblings Bertha Olive (Jim), George Cormier, Johnnie Cormier, Gary Cormier and Betrice Lacelle (John). Shirley is survived by her sister-in-law Claire Loiselle, and predeceased by her in-laws Hector Brunet (Annette), Gérald Brunet, Claude Brunet (Suzanne), Rollande Duguay (René), Jeannine Morin (Romeo) and Simone Lacroix (Jean-Louis).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the West Nipissing Branch of Victoria Quilts, or to a charity of your choice.
Funeral Mass will be held in Cache Bay at Ste-Therese d'Avila Church, Saturday August 16th, 2025 at 12:00pm.
