Jean Paul Emile Laroche

Jean Paul passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, with his loving family with him at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice on July 31, 2025, at the age of 77.

Jean Paul was born on July 15, 1948, in LaSalle, Quebec, to his loving mother Stella and his father Paul. Jean Paul is survived by his wife of 54 years, Zena Anne, his sister Suzie Hill, and his brother in-law Norm Nazwaski. He will be missed by his best friends Dr. William Ross and Dr. David Ryan.

Jean Paul, Bill, and David were graduate students in the early 1970s at the University of Windsor, all three receiving their Ph.D.S in Psychology.

Jean Paul met Zena in 1970 when he saw her perform in a play in Detroit. He then became very interested in Theatre and forever was her "Stage Door Johnny". They married in 1971.

In 1975, Jean Paul and Zena moved to North Bay, where he began his career as a Psychologist at the North Bay Psychiatric Hospital, then as a Psychologist at the Nipissing Children's Mental Health Centre, and Executive Director of Concordia Centre. Jean Paul returned to being a Psychologist in private practice as well as practicing at CFB North Bay, working with veterans. Jean Paul was also actively involved in volunteer work in the community.

Jean Paul loved photography, music, playing harmonica, accordion and drumming. His talent was compiling brilliant discs of music.

Forever active and a risk-taker, he practiced Jiu-jitsu and became a motorcycle racer. Zena insisted that he attempt another hobby, and he eventually joined yoga. Jean Paul was a great dancer, showing off when he did the "splits", BUT he could never sing!

Jean Paul loved life. He had an amazing sense of humour, quick wit and a devilish laugh.

We appreciate the outstanding care that Jean Paul received at the North Bay Regional Health Centre and the Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

There will be a celebration of Jean Paul's life will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at the Grande Event Centre from 2:00pm - 4:30pm with a memorial taking place at 3:00pm.
