Norman Laframboise Obituary

Passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025, at Nipissing Manor in North Bay, Ontario. Born in North Bay on September 9, 1934, Norm lived a rich and adventurous life filled with love, laughter, and an unwavering kindness that touched everyone who knew him.

Norm is lovingly remembered by his former spouse and dear friend, Barbara Laframboise, and his children Greg Laframboise (Diane Piperni) and Patricia Forrington (John Forrington). He was a proud grandfather to Raven Laframboise, Skyra Laframboise Allen (Forest Hawke Allen), and Katherine Forrington (Justice Bushey), and a doting great-grandfather to little Everleigh. He is predeceased by his parents, Alcide and Cecile Laframboise, and his infant son, Anthony Laframboise.

One of 15 siblings, Norm grew up in a big, lively household that no doubt contributed to his outgoing nature and legendary storytelling abilities. He lived a dynamic life, working in a wide range of roles — from car sales at Mallard Motors to running his own arcade, Sassy Sam’s, to prospecting in the rugged terrain of the Yukon and Alaska.

A gifted athlete, Norm excelled at every sport he tried — from football and basketball to curling and shuffleboard. He was also an avid fisherman who found joy and peace in the outdoors. Animals, especially dogs, held a special place in his heart. His beloved canine companions — Mitzi, Pepper, Kodi and Shadow — were like family to him. The story of him rescuing Shadow from the icy Ottawa River remains one of the many tales that reflect his courage and deep compassion.

Norm will be remembered not just for his adventurous spirit, but also for his warmth, humour, and generosity. A master card player and a natural storyteller, he brought laughter and connection wherever he went. He truly would have given his last dollar to help someone in need — and often did.

In keeping with his wishes, Norm has been cremated.

His family will honour his memory privately, gathering together to celebrate a life so fully and generously lived.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Nipissing Manor, with special gratitude to Nurse Donna, for their exceptional care and compassion during Norm’s final days.
