Hocking, William Foley “Bill”

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of William “Bill” Hocking, on  Thursday, June 19th 2025, at Nipissing Serenity Hospice, with his family lovingly by his side. Born in South Porcupine on September 21, 1946, Bill was a proud Northerner whose no-nonsense approach was always tempered by a deeply kind and generous heart.

Beloved husband of 57 years to Linda (née Bullock), Bill was the cherished father of Shawn (Jennifer), Michael (Tammy), and Todd (Craig), and a proud grandfather to Alexander, Christian, Jordan, Riley, and Anthony. His family and pets were his pride and joy.

Bill dedicated 32 years to the Ontario Provincial Police, retiring as a respected Sergeant in 1998. Never one to stay idle, he went on to work in the plumbing department at Home Depot, continuing to help others with his vast knowledge and trademark efficiency. A true jack of all trades, he could always be found puttering in the garage, fixing things for anyone who needed a hand.

An avid outdoorsman, his happiest days were spent camping, fishing, hunting, and spending time in nature.

Bill was a proud 50-year member and past president of the West Ferris Legion Branch #599, where he gave back to his community and fellow veterans.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the West Ferris Legion (30 Legion Drive, North Bay) on Sunday, June 29th at 1:00 p.m., where friends and family will gather to share memories and honour Bill’s remarkable life.
