Obituary of Arthur Ross Carroll
Arthur “Art” Ross Carroll
July 4, 1949 – May 27, 2025
With hearts full of sorrow and love, we announce the peaceful passing of Arthur “Art” Ross Carroll on May 27, 2025, at Waters Edge Long-Term Care in North Bay, Ontario. After years of coping with COPD, he passed with loved ones by his side and his favourite music playing.
Born on the 4th of July 1949, in North Bay, Art was the youngest of Freda and Andy Carroll’s seven children. Art has gone home to reunite with his parents, his brothers Allan and Lorne, and his beloved sisters Ruth Hastings, and Sandra McQuillan who he was especially close to.
He is survived by his beloved brother Wayne Carroll, his cherished sister Linda McKerrow, and his many nieces and nephews whom he loved deeply.
Lovingly referred to as the “Patron Saint of Orphans and Strays,” Art had a generous, compassionate heart. Children and animals were drawn to Art — and he to them. His kindness was instinctive and unconditional. He played a fatherly role in the lives of his stepdaughter Bobbie Maxwell, and Ryan and Abby Dutrisac who both called him Grandpa.
Art suffered from Lewy body dementia in his later years but retained his long-term memory and loved to reminisce about his life, his family, and his passions.
A talented craftsman and builder, Art was the founder and owner of Bay Roofing until his retirement. He had a lifelong knack for creating, from structures to furniture, always striving to build as beautifully as his brother Wayne, whom he admired and looked up to throughout his life.
Art had a great eye for beauty and style. He was always stylish himself, with a deep appreciation for design, music, and cars. He was an avid fan of rock 'n' roll and the blues, and his deep love for music stayed with him to the end. Long before it became a trend, Art was a devoted follower of true crime stories, always fascinated by the mysteries of human nature. Art was also an avid sports fan and a natural athlete throughout his life, with a lifelong love for hockey, baseball, and billiards.
Special thanks to the nurses and staff in B1 at NBRHC, whom Art loved, appreciated, and missed dearly after his move to Waters Edge. Deep gratitude as well to the team at Waters Edge, who only had a short time with him but made a lasting and positive impact on his life and well-being, and who stood by the family with compassion as he departed.
Art’s legacy is one of quiet generosity, deep love, and strong character. He will be missed more than words can say.
A private family gathering will be held in accordance with Art’s wishes. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Art’s name to the North Bay Humane Society or All Heart Pet Rescue — causes close to his heart.
