Robert Ashley Cooper “Bob” Benson

Sadly, his family announces his passing. Bob was the beloved husband of Janet (nee Sproat) for 57 years. Bob was in his 87th year. 

Loving father of Kelly Anne Smith of North Bay, William Jarvis “Billy” Smith of North Bay and Judith Valerie Benson Harrington and her husband Dean of Powassan. Poppy will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Tamara Beauchamp, David Beauchamp, Matthew Beauchamp predeceased, Cole Robert Benson Harrington, Jaye Valerie Janet Harrington (Ryan) and by his great grandchildren Tristan Beauchamp-Perry, Ben Frandsen and Jackson Beauchamp. 

Remembered by Bob's brother John Benson (Nancy) and family, Dan Benson (Claire) and Jennifer (Jerrid) Tremaine and the family of his brother Ted Benson predeceased (Karen), Andrea McDougall (Dean), Jared (Deanna) Benson, Sarah (Darren) Benson. Dearly missed by Janet’s siblings, the Sproats, Jim (Marg), Jerry predeceased (CarolAnn), Judi, Bing predeceased (Joyce) and Jeff (Rena). And nieces and nephews, Michael (Evelyn), Susan (Paul), Jamieson (Cara), Elizabeth (Tim), Jennifer, Jason (Mandy), Robert (Samantha), John (Becky). 

Bob will not be forgotten by his loyal dog Scarlett. For a great many years Bob & Janet joined their friends the “Friday Night Gang,” dining at many of North Bay’s restaurants. He will be missed by Gisele, Joanne & Ron, Murray & Sandi, Trudy & Peter, Bob & Anne, Marg & Toulou. A Chemical Engineer, Bob worked for many years with Tembec at the Temiscaming plant.

Visitation will be held at the Martyn Funeral Home on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 11:00am – 2:00pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00pm.

Cremation has taken place, and an interment of ashes will be held later at the Powassan Union Cemetery. 

If desired, donations to the Nipissing Serenity Hospice would be gratefully acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.
