Obituary of Doris Elizabeth McLaren

Doris Elizabeth McLaren (Whalley), 90 Doris McLaren passed away peacefully with her children by her side Monday December 18, 2017 at the North Bay Regional Health Centre in her 91st year. Born in Eau Claire, ON to her late parents William and Carrie Whalley, Doris was the dearly loved sister of Ruth Smith (late Fred), Bill (Simone), & Keith (Dawn). Predeceased by her siblings Ernest (Lila), Robert (Vienna), Garth (Shirley), Earl (Linda), Lorna Chicquen (Fred), Sheila Wunsch (Ernie), Gertrude Graff (James), Mildred Sullivan (Carl), Don (Barbara) and Hazel Whalley (Roy). Doris married her soul mate Edgar McLaren (predeceased) and raised four children, Mervin (Judy) of Rutherglen, Grace Joeveer (Roy) of Sudbury, Heather Thompson (late Wayne) of Warminster and Mark (Bev) of North Bay. Doris and Edgar spent much of their 64 years farming in Rutherglen as her family grew to include grandchildren Brent (Peggy), Stacey (Pierre), Irma (Michelle), Kimberly (Anthony), Mark, Gwen (Gautam), Adam (Jessica), Katie (Corey) and 15 great grandchildren whom she adored. She led a 4-H Homemaking Club for many years, sharing her many acquired skills, and had numerous interests including her beautiful flower gardens, music, fishing and the Toronto Blue Jays whom she watched faithfully. She nourished her family and friends with her excellent cooking and award-winning baking, and was a remarkable seamstress and knitter. She will forever be remembered for her joyous smile, warm hugs and immense love for Edgar, with whom she is now reunited in Heaven. Friends may call at the MARTYN FUNERAL HOME on Thursday, December 21, 2017 afternoon and evening from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 PM. Funeral services will be held at Martyn Funeral Home Chapel on December 22nd, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Spring interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Rutherglen. If desired donations to the North Bay Regional Health Centre -3D medical or Eastholme would be appreciated. The family would like to extend a sincere thanks to the staff at Eastholme and NBRHC for the exceptional care offered to Doris during her final days and a special thanks to Dr. Ng, Dr. Reid, Dr.King, nurse Kim and nurse Sarah.
