Obituary of Kerry Strachan Elliott

ELLIOTT – Kerry Strachan Retired Captain North Bay Fire Department With heavy hearts the Elliott family sadly announces Kerry’s death on Wednesday December 27th, 2017, at the age of 68 years. He died peacefully, with his family at his side, at North Bay Regional Health Center, following a lengthy struggle with cancer. For the past 46 years he has been the loving husband, partner and best friend of Sharon (nee Boothby). The proud and loving father of Stephanie and Matt, and Grandad to Sydney and Taylor who, along with his great-niece Tessa, will always hold him in a special place in their hearts. Kerry was a father figure to Kaley and many of his nieces and nephews while being more of a brother than a brother-in-law to Suzanne and Lynda. Kerry is survived by his father Graham Elliott and was predeceased by his mother Shirley and his only brother Bruce. A firefighter by profession Kerry proudly served with the North Bay Fire Department for over 30 years, retiring as Captain in 2005. Dedicated to his fellow firefighters he was a past President of the North Bay Firefighter’s Association, serving its members for over 15 years. For the past 40 years Kerry and Sharon have made Callander their home, raising their family there. His family came first and when his children were younger he was involved in coaching their ringuette and hockey teams and continued to support and encourage them throughout his life. Once the granddaughters arrived, he was one of their biggest fans and was always willing and eager to support them in any way he could. He loved to hunt, never missing a season at the camp in the fall, and spent endless hours on the ice as a passionate ice fisherman. Like all northern kids he played hockey, and spent several seasons as goaltender with the Huskies while attending college in Kirkland Lake and later with the North Bay Fire Department league. Supportive of others and selfless he was a mentor to many. He will be lovingly remembered by his many friends and colleagues. In keeping with his wishes his body will be cremated. Friends are invited to share their memories with his family during visitation at the Martyn Funeral Home on Wednesday January 3, 2018 from 6 – 9 pm. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Ramada Pinewood Park Resort, 201 Pinewood Park Drive, at 1:30 pm on Thursday January 4th, 2018.
