Ian is a proud fifth generation funeral director in the Martyn family. He was born in North Bay in 1965 to the late Anne (Heighton) and George Martyn. Ian is married to Jody Sloan, also a funeral director, and together they have two sons and two daughters; Zachary, Jacob, Sloan and Rowan. Ian graduated from West Ferris Secondary School and went on to graduate from the Funeral Service Education Program at Humber College. In 1990, after five years of practical experience in funeral service in Toronto, Ian joined the family business. He has served as the President of the Northeastern Ontario Funeral Service Association, is an active member of St. Andrew’s United Church, the North Bay Rotary Club, has volunteered with Big Brothers, is an associate member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #23 and is currently Co-Chair of the Fundraising Committee for the Nipissing Serenity Hopsice. Ian is a true "canoe-head" and outdoor enthusiast, who loves adventure and spending time with his family.

Jody graduated from Widdifield Secondary School before graduating with honours from the Funeral Service Education Program at Humber College, Toronto. She received her Ontario Funeral Director's Licence in 1998, after apprenticing with Martyn Funeral Home.  For the next couple of years she was employed with Giffen-Mack "Scarborough Chapel" before returning to her hometown of North Bay. Jody has varied and extensive experience in funeral service, having worked with many multi-cultural faiths. She began working for her family's funeral transfer service at the age of fourteen, and later for their monument company. Jody has had training in Perinatal Bereavement, and implemented the "Continuing Care"  program for Martyn Funeral Home families. Every fall Jody organizes the annual Martyn's Memorial Christmas Tree Program, which has helped raise funds for Nipissing Serenity Hospice, among other local charities. She has also served as a volunteer on the Bereavement Committee for Near North Palliative Care Network.  Jody is married to Ian Martyn, and is a very proud and busy mom to son Jacob, daughters Sloan & Rowan, and step-son Zachary.

Meet Mac, a dedicated individual whose journey through life has been marked by compassion, service, and community engagement. Graduating from West Ferris Secondary School in 1982, Mac embarked on a path of learning that would ultimately lead him to become an integral part of the funeral service profession.

Following his passion for serving others during times of loss, Mac pursued Funeral Service Education at Humber College in Toronto, graduating in 1985. His commitment to excellence and dedication to the craft led him to Martyn Funeral Home, where he seamlessly transitioned from apprentice to valued staff member.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mac is deeply invested in the betterment of his community. As a sixth-term Councillor for the City of North Bay, a role he has held since 2003, he tirelessly advocates for the interests and needs of his constituents.

In addition to his civic duties, Mac is actively involved in various organizations within the funeral service industry. As a Board Member of gfd.org (formerly Guaranteed Funeral Deposits), he contributes his expertise to ensure ethical and reliable practices in the field. He has also served as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Funeral Service and as President of the North Eastern Ontario Funeral Directors Association, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to advancing the profession.

Outside of his professional and civic engagements, Mac finds solace and joy in the company of his loved ones. Whether spending quality time with his wife, daughters, or six grandchildren, Mac cherishes every moment with his family. When time permits, he indulges in his passions for golfing and embarking on relaxing vacations with his beloved wife, creating cherished memories that last a lifetime.
